What Is Better for Weight Loss"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We often overestimate the amount of calories cardio workouts burn and often underestimate how much daily movement or unconscious movement, also called non-exercise activity thermogenesis, or NEAT, plays a role in calorie burn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The problem with doing cardio for weight loss is that to really get to a significant amount of calorie burn, you need to schedule a lot of time for it. And then once you finish the 3 hour cardio session, you can in one sitting eat back all those calories. And it takes you only a few minutes. This is why they say that you can\u2019t out exercise a bad diet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even worse, your body adapts for cardiovascular endurance and slows down its metabolism. It conserves energy in order to endure longer distances. Therefore even things like walking start to burn less calories because your body is so adapted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You also think that you can be more passive now that you have already done a cardio session (and burned like 200 calories).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What about NEAT then? What about moving about during the day, fidgeting, jumping your legs when sitting, standing up frequently, etc. Does this make an impact? You bet it does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NEAT can vary between individuals a lot and contribute to hundreds of extra calories burned per day. I notice while writing this that my legs are jumping. I probably get to eat as many calories as I do, because my body finds ways to burn them unconsciously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The thing about NEAT is that it is unconscious. You cannot affect it much. One person sits passively, another gets restless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While restless or nervous type of fidgety behavior is often thought of as negative, it is certainly a positive thing for fat loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What you can do consciously is to just take breaks from sitting, perhaps become more lively in conversation by moving your hands and so on, or you can just consciously get more steps &#8211; go to the bathroom in the other office building, park the car further, go to the grocery store by walking and carry those grocery bags home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It makes a bigger difference than you think.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We often overestimate the amount of calories cardio workouts burn and often underestimate how much daily movement or unconscious movement, also called non-exercise activity thermogenesis, or NEAT, plays a role in calorie burn.
