Some days are good. Some days are bad. But what we often fail to realize is that our moods and mental wellbeing are very much dictated by our nutrient intake and lifestyle…
What is a mood anyways? Your mood is a set of chemical reactions in your body. And what are these chemicals made of? Or what makes them? Nutrients! For instance, folate is a nutrient that turns into dopamine, reducing depression and promoting happiness.
Trying to be happy and feel good without sufficient nutrient intake is as futile as trying to build a house with no building materials.
So, let’s get to the list of foods that can help with mood (I’m literally sipping a green smoothie while writing this by the way, lol)

Oranges
Oranges are rich in vitamin C which reduces the stress hormone cortisol.

Avocados
Avocados are rich in the earlier mentioned nutrient, folate, that turns into dopamine.

Nuts
Nuts are rich in micronutrients and omega 3 fatty acids. Eating walnuts can boost your mood by 28 %.

Bananas
Bananas are rich in vitamin B6 and tryptophan, which like mentioned above, make serotonin.

Salmon
Salmon is rich in omega 3 fatty acids. Omega 3 fatty acids can reduce depression up to 50 %.

Leafy Greens
Green vegetables have magnesium and folate. Magnesium makes serotonin, and folate turns into dopamine.

Blueberries
Anthocyanin is an antioxidant that produces dopamine.

Yogurt
Live lactobacillus in yogurt reduces inflammation.

Dark Chocolate
Flavonols, found in chocolate, reduce the stress hormone cortisol.

Green tea
L-theanine, found in green tea and mate, promotes feelings of calmness.

So, time to find that blender from the back of your closet and throw in some leafy greens with avocado, bananas, blueberries, and yogurt. Swap the candy bar for dark chocolate and nuts, and some of those coffees with green tea. Skip the processed fast food for a filet of salmon for lunch, with a glass of orange juice.
